Republic Rhapsody (A Cappella Interest Group)
As part of both the command and creative team of Rhapsody, I've completed many tasks involving admin work, creative vision and leadership skills to guide my juniors and hone my understudies' skills as future leaders.
(Rhapsoween 2025)
Being a secretary made me more conscientious in my work to avoid mistakes and make messages as clear as possible. As I mainly submit documents such as proposals, venue bookings and attendance sheets. I've spearheaded many proposals for bonding events, performances, open classes and auditions.
The event in the image above is Rhapsoween 2025, an annual Halloween bonding event planned by Rhapsody's exco team. I was the overall-in-charge of Rhapsoween that year, which meant that I had to oversee of the overall details of the activities, timeline and event logistics in the proposal, liased with the advisors on our plans and updated the attendees about the costume theme, what to bring and when, where and what time the event was happening.
(Reflections Arts Festival: Makan Makan Open Mic)
Music direction concerns more than musicality, all our performances carry stories in them. Every song we sing must portray a meaning, and the music director oversees that. I arrange songs for us to cover them in a cappella without instruments, and discuss with my batch their meaning. and what message we hope to convey to our audience. If we are to create our own productions such as Internals and in Rhapsody's past, Strictly A Cappella, then the music director would be in charge of the main message of the overall performance.
One of my arrangements, The Cutest Pair by local artist Regina Song, was used in the open mic segment of Reflections Arts Festival: Makan Makan. Recently, Rhapsody has completed Internals 2026: Secret Paradise, which became this year's theme after my fellow exco shared about how she and her friend shared fun moments at the beach and expressing how her happiness felt like paradise. This led us to develop that concept of paradise to a performance that celebrates life
(Christmas Marketing Video)
Even as an assistant, I help the marketing head edit videos and design graphics while planning what other trend or cover we can post to boost our social media outreach. I align the visuals, audio and captions, syncing themto look natural to our viewers. As for graphic designs, I use Canva to ensure there are cute graphics decoratedthe pictures, making sure they are eye-catching and appealing while being informational for our audience. While planning for Internals, we made a marketing calendar planning our posting dates and our photoshoot accustomed to our members' schedule and designed the posts. I used Adobe Lightroom to edit some of the photos taken while our photographer did the rest. I also design the summary of not just Rhapsody, but other Interest Groups' performances and previews, making the videos aesthetically pleasing.
(Reflections Arts Festival: Tribute IV; Yours, Shanty)
Additionally, as Rhapsody is an interest group under the performing arts, I've utilised what I learnt in my diploma in session and actual performances, especially from the live sound department.
In sessions, members are required to set up and spike our own equipment. Intergrating the lessons taught in class, I could correctly guide my batchmates and juniors into the proper procedures of basic equipment handling, such as cable management (taping cables to the floor to prevent accidents, cable coiling to preserve cable life, labelling cables, etc), turning down the volume on the speaker before turning in on and more. We bring these skills to performances, in which we help the tech crew with spiking the stage.
I also use what I learnt in sound design in marketing posts. Sometimes we record ourselves singing our parts and upload into a DAW such as Bandlab. After everyone is done, I would mix and balance each part to make them sound as clear as possible, and we would lipsync to the video to make it sound natural.
In performances itself, I didn't come from a strong music or performing background. It took much hard work and perseverance during practices to round my singing voice and develop my stage presence. A capppella is niche and requires heavy effort as we need to actively listen to the voices of our ensemble and blend our tones with them while implementing dynamics to the song, keeping the harmonies rich and smooth. Doing this while maintaining stage presence and choreography has been a struggle for me, but I've managed to master what I need to do onstage to deliver an exciting performance.
Rhapsody Internals 2026: Secret Paradise
Under Rhapsody, we host an annual production known as Internals, in which our juniors are assessed for their technical skills. I was in charge of the technical details of the production, such as mixing, equipment handling, marketing, arrangements and scheduling. These are just some skills I've learnt being under Rhapsody and studying under my course, Diploma in Sonic Arts, in RP.
